Light Table Activities

Our students enjoy using the light table to explore a variety of things. It is fun to see the colours light up as our Kinders manipulate shapes or sort acorns and leaves according to colours. We try to change the things we place on our table to include numbers, letters, X-Ray and other resources to engage our students to explore in a fun way!

Proud Pumpkins

Our Kindergartens our proud of our hall bulletin board that we try to incorporate them into. They love seeing pictures of themselves! We have been reading the Five Little Pumpkins poem with them. Our bulletin board had to be adapted from Five Little Pumpkins to 28!!!

French Vocabulary

Our students are building on their knowledge of French words. Mrs. Lepage is incorporating learning new French vocabulary in a variety of fun ways; through the use of the Smart Board, by singing songs or, as the following pictures show,by creating a scavenger hunt where students find the French word (with picture) and students print the word on their clipboard. It is officially business if the students have their own clipboard!!

Constructive Play

Our students are very interested in building structures and creating things using various materials such as blocks, magnets, Lego etc. Engaging in constructive palsy fosters a child's imagination, problem solving and decision making skills. Students also work cooperatively towards a common goal! Well done guys!

Our Book Area

Our students enjoy our reading area and love having books read to them both individually and to the whole class. Appreciating books is a big factor in early reading success. In the following picture we have Mrs. Dunlop our Educational Assistant reading a book with our student. It is nice to have one on one time to learn and bond.

Sensory Fun!

We love to support students' inquiries and one fun way to so is to fill our sensory table with things that interest our Kinders. This is a fun hands on activity that allows children to use their imaginations and explore different textures. For example, students are interested in Halloween so the sensory table was filled with twenty tiny pumpkins for children to count and play with. We try to change the contents of the sensory table every two weeks to keep things fresh and to touch on a variety of interests! We welcome your ideas for our sensory table.

Tasting Pumpkin Seeds

Our class has been busy learning about pumpkins. We have explored how a pumpkin grows which lead to a natural curiosity about pumpkin seeds and what is found inside a pumpkin. Our Kinders were eager to hull out several pumpkins with the final goal of tasting the roasted seeds! The hands on activity was a success and students had fun getting their hands dirty!
